About Seurat
Seurat is transforming manufacturing for people and our planet by delivering a scalable additive manufacturing solution to fundamentally change how products are made. Seurat’s proprietary Area Printing process, developed at Lawrence Livermore National Labs (LLNL), allows metal components to be manufactured at price points and quality levels that compete directly with conventional manufacturing techniques, enabling the reshoring of supply chains and promoting the decarbonization of industry. Seurat has raised over $180M and is backed by leading venture partners like Capricorn, NVentures (NVIDIA), True Ventures, General Motors Ventures, Denso, Porsche SE, SIP global partners, Honda, Xerox Ventures/Myriad Venture Partners, Cubit Capital, Siemens Energy, and Maniv Mobility.
We are currently seeking a talented and team-oriented Application Design Engineer to add to our team.
Job Responsibilities:
As a Senior Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer at Seurat Technologies, you will play a pivotal role working with customers in the creation of innovative and optimized designs by leveraging additive manufacturing best-practice but also leveraging the unique capabilities of Seurat’s novel Area Printing process.
The successful candidate will own projects from start to finish collaborating internally with cross-functional teams as well as the customer, ensuring that designs meet functional requirements as well as being configured for throughput and economics. As an extended requirement of the role the candidate is expected to be a team player by contributing to the continuous improvement of Seurat’s software and hardware to ensure that design practice is translated effectively into the manufactured end product.

- Work directly with the customer to understand application constraints and performance criteria to translate their needs into design requirements optimized for Area Printing.
- Implement generative design and topology optimization techniques to enhance efficiency and material utilization and ensure that parts designed consider factors such as build orientation, support structures, and material characteristics (suited to Area Printing) and the more holistic manufacturing process (inc. post-processing), i.e., parts are designed for fixturing, heat treatment, etc.
- Generate and finalize part design and assist process engineers to develop proper manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with Seurat’s process and application engineers and provide feedback during the iterations of designing, testing, and part manufacturing.
- Address and resolve design-related issues that may impact the quality of printed components in production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate the design process into product development workflows and lead/support activities such as design for Area Printing guidelines as well as any third-party developments to customize off-the-shelf solutions and or the development of new solutions specifically for Area Printing.
- Stay abreast of advancements in metal 3D printing technologies, materials, and design methodologies and continuously evaluate and integrate new tools and techniques to improve design processes and outcomes.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar technical discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience with additive manufacturing.
- 2+ years of professional experience with metal additive manufacturing.
- Experience using 3D CAD systems, such as SolidWorks.
- Experience using Additive Manufacturing Software such as Materialise Magics, nTopology, NetFabb, or similar.
- Experience using Generative Design and topology optimization software.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles specific to additive manufacturing.
- Familiarity with a range of additive manufacturing materials and their properties.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think innovatively in the context of additive manufacturing.
- Excellent communication skills for effectively conveying design concepts and collaborating with team members.
- Travel up to 15%
- Detail-oriented with excellent verbal, graphical, and technical communication skills.
- Knowledge of simulation tools for additive manufacturing process validation.
- Understanding of post-processing techniques for additive manufacturing components and how to design for manufacturability.
- Hands-on machine operating experience in metal Laser Powder Bed Fusion.
- Experience with finite element modeling.
