About the Job
Sustaining Engineer job responsibilities include ongoing support, maintenance, and enhancement of products post-deployment. The Sustaining Engineer will work with the customers and collaborate internally with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues, improve product performance, and ensure continued compliance with customer requirements and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, experience in systems engineering, and a passion for ensuring products continue to meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Product Maintenance & Support post-deployment. Work closely with customers to address product issues, troubleshoot technical problems, and ensure long-term product functionality.
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate and identify root causes of product failures or performance issues and implement corrective actions or improvements to enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Product Enhancements & Upgrades: Collaborate with the development team to implement product improvements, updates, and enhancements. Support the development and release of product updates that address customer feedback, regulatory changes, and technological advancements.
- Customer Communication: Engage with customers to provide ongoing product support, technical guidance, and updates on product health. Regularly brief stakeholders on product status, performance metrics, and improvements.
- Testing & Verification: Coordinate and execute testing activities, including validation, integration, and regression testing, to ensure that product updates and fixes are effective and do not introduce new issues.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of product support activities, including root cause analysis reports, resolutions, maintenance schedules, and testing results. Ensure that all changes and updates are well-documented in line with internal processes and regulatory standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to facilitate the smooth implementation of changes, updates, and resolutions. Ensure that all product changes are in alignment with overall system design and performance goals.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of sustaining engineering activities, reducing time-to-resolution for issues, and improving customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in sustaining engineering, product support, or a related technical role.
- Strong experience with troubleshooting and resolving hardware/software integration issues in the field or lab environments.
- Knowledge of system engineering principles and methodologies.
- Experience with testing and validation processes, including regression, integration, and performance testing.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for quality control, safety, and reliability.
- Proficient in using technical tools and software for issue tracking, test management, and product documentation (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact with cross-functional teams and customers effectively.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
- Experience working with customer feedback loops to address issues and improve products.
- US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with defense, aerospace, or highly regulated industries.
- Understanding of product lifecycle management and configuration management processes.
- Experience with modeling tools (e.g., SysML, UML) and requirements analysis tools.
- Knowledge of networking protocols and hardware interfaces (e.g., 1553, Ethernet, etc.
