As a Senior Financial Analyst, R&D (Cloud Cost Focus) at ThoughtSpot, you will play a critical role in driving financial strategy and operational excellence within the Product and Engineering teams, with a specific focus on cloud cost management and optimization. This role goes beyond traditional finance—it's about delivering forward-looking insights on cloud spend, enabling smarter investment decisions, and building tools that help the business operate more efficiently in a cloud-first environment. Success in this role requires a proactive mindset, a drive to raise the bar, and the ability to operate with urgency in a fast-paced, cloud-centric environment.

What you'll do:

  • Cloud Cost Analysis & Optimization: Partner with Product and Engineering to monitor, analyze, and optimize cloud infrastructure costs (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure, GCP). Identify cost drivers, forecast cloud spend, and recommend actions to improve cost efficiency.

  • Strategic Finance Partnering: Align financial plans with operational strategies, ensuring cloud investments drive innovation and efficiency.

  • OpEx & Budget Management: Track and manage R&D and cloud-related spending, conduct Budget vs. Actual (BvA) analysis, and provide forecasts that support agile decision-making.

  • Business Tooling for Cloud Spend: Build scalable templates and tools to bridge data gaps, translate cloud usage data into actionable insights, and support day-to-day business management.

  • Adaptive Planning: Enhance budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes in Adaptive Planning, with a focus on integrating cloud cost data for improved accuracy and decision-making.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a bridge between R&D, Cloud Engineering, and company-wide FP&A, ensuring financial processes are consistent and cloud cost decisions are informed.

  • Ad-Hoc Projects: Lead high-impact analyses and initiatives related to cloud migration, total cost of ownership, and strategic investment decisions in cloud technologies.

What you bring:

  • Experience: 5+ years in finance, FP&A, or related fields, with direct experience in cloud cost analysis, cloud financial management, or FinOps in a SaaS or technology environment.

  • Cloud Cost Management: Deep understanding of cloud pricing models, cost drivers, and optimization strategies for major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.).

  • Creative Problem-Solving & Tool Creation: Ability to translate ambiguous or incomplete cloud usage data into structured analysis, building repeatable templates for cloud cost management.

  • Communication & Influence: Strong ability to engage and partner with senior stakeholders, providing compelling financial narratives around cloud investments.

  • Bias for Action: Results-driven mindset with a passion for increasing urgency and elevating performance in cloud cost management.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills, with experience in Adaptive Planning or similar tools, and familiarity with cloud cost management platforms.

  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to accuracy, data integrity, and continuous process improvement, especially in cloud cost reporting.

At ThoughtSpot, you'll be part of a collaborative finance team that’s deeply embedded in driving product and cloud strategy. You'll have the opportunity to grow your career while working on meaningful challenges at the intersection of finance, cloud technology, and innovation.
