Inventables Inc. seeks a Mechanical Engineer III at its facility located at 600 W Van Buren St, Ste 215, Chicago, IL 60607.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Work with internal stakeholders, including Director of Product, Head of Customer Service and Product Managers, as well as external partners, including design contractors, outsourced manufacturing, and suppliers, to develop mechanical parts and assemblies of CNC machines and relevant accessories that meet Inventables’ standards for design and aesthetic requirements. Use 3D CAD and analysis software, and the ability to develop strong professional relationships with stakeholders and partners to ensure the machine is developed in the prescribed time frame and functions appropriately. Design and communicate new and creative machine design concepts for coordinated drive systems in 3+ axes. Create prototypes of new CNC machine components and accessories for evaluation. Conduct technical design reviews to communicate and evaluate CNC machine designs. Design electronics packaging and work with electrical engineers to optimize spatial and thermal efficiency. Analyze designs for potential failure points and perform finite element analysis as required. Provide ongoing support for issues with current fielded products. Work with contract manufacturers and suppliers to optimize Design for Manufacturing. Create specifications, drawings, and documentation for efficient communication of designs with both internal stakeholders and external partners. Design and run verification and validation tests on CNC machine components, assemblies, and systems. Maintain projects and manage change utilizing our Product Lifecycle Management system. Stay abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and methods for cost effective and efficient design and manufacturing methods. 100% remote work with access to private workshop required.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, plus 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering or a related field. Additionally, the applicant must have experience with: 1) Developing and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine and accessory projects while conducting sustaining engineering activities, utilizing Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems; 2) Managing machine and accessory component selection with input from sourcing teams and recommendations from external engineering and manufacturing partners; 3) Serving as a leading point of contact with external engineering partners; 4) Designing and communicating mechanical and mechatronic machine design concepts for coordinated drive systems in 3+ axes.; 5) Designing validation test plans for components, assemblies, and systems of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines.

SALARY RANGE: $85k - $120k
