The Mission of the Senior SAR Engineer
As a Senior SAR Engineer at ICEYE, your mission is to transform raw radar signals into some of the world’s finest-resolution and most advanced SAR imagery. You will work at the intersection of physics, signal processing, and computer science, taking advantage of our large and rapidly growing satellite constellation to push the boundaries of space-based radar sensing.
Who We Are
ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE’s world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy – day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.
As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE’s near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.
ICEYE operates internationally with offices in Finland, Poland, Spain, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the US. The company has more than 900 employees, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.
Expected Outcomes & Competencies
Role responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of advanced SAR signal processing technologies, delivering operational, high-performance imaging capabilities that meaningfully differentiate ICEYE’s constellation.
Own complex engineering initiatives end-to-end, providing technical leadership to a small team of engineers and collaborating closely with Orbit & Attitude Control, FPGA and electronics, radio, and flight software teams.
Drive new collection capabilities from concept to deployment, ensuring solutions support ISR operations, product roadmaps, and customer needs in real-world operational environments.
Core Expertise:
Strong background in physics, electronic engineering, or a closely related field.
Deep understanding of Synthetic Aperture Radar signal processing, including hands-on experience developing SAR image formation processors.
Strong Supporting Experience:
Ability to rapidly prototype new signal processing ideas using high-level languages such as Python.
Experience translating concepts and prototypes into low-level, production-quality code suitable for large-scale operational systems (e.g. C, C++, Rust, Go).
Experience working in containerized environments, including Docker.
-
Broad technical capability across multiple domains, including:
Computer science
Physics (orbits, radar, SAR)
-
Electronic engineering (FPGAs, antennas)
