Why you will love this role:
As a Senior Satellite Production Systems Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring that ICEYE satellite tests deliver the expected results. You will coordinate and analyze functional, payload, and Bus-level tests to validate subsystem and system-level performance. You will also act as a technical expert for tests assigned at the subsystem level, identifying risks, handling anomalies and leading cross-functional troubleshooting across multiple procedures for subsystem testing on the satellite. This position combines specialised technical skills with leadership qualities in the field of production. It involves ensuring that subsystems are correctly built, tested and integrated, while supervising teams and guaranteeing the overall success of the satellite mission.
What you will do in this role:
- Plan and carry out functional testing of built hardware, including setup, instrumentation, test execution to validate satellite operations.
- Analyse test results and make any necessary adjustments in the event of malfunction or non-compliance. Write detailed test reports and escalate it to AIT engineers and system design engineers when necessary.
- Take responsibility for assigned processes, acting as the primary troubleshooter and technical expert.
- Take ownership of testing procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and accurate.
- Provide technical training and mentoring to team members, share your knowledge and expertise, and contribute to the development of training programmes and best practices.
- Assisting in the management of activities related to satellite launch campaigns.
- Work closely and ensure clear communication with other production teams to ensure satellite-build-phase deadlines and technical specifications are met.
- Reviews test software automations and sets new requirements for the development and improvement of satellite testing procedures.
- Monitor schedules and manage unforeseen technical events.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation during subsystem testing, including progress reports and issue tracking.
- Interface with AIT engineers, designers, and system engineers to ensure satellite system-level tests are reliable.
- Participate in design reviews, failure investigations, and lessons-learned meetings.
- Maintain documentation, traceability, and quality records in compliance with internal and external standards.
What you need to be successful in this role:
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Space studies, Embedded Systems, or a related technical field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in these areas are a plus.
- 5 years of hands-on experience managing testing processes at scale, with a proven track record of promoting continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, with particular attention to detail regarding procedures, preparation and execution.
- Understanding of satellite subsystems (including examples like power, propulsion, AOCS, and communication) and key operational concepts (such as anomaly management, telemetry monitoring).
- Proficient in using the Linux command-line interface for system testing and monitoring, log analysis, and basic file management in a satellite operations environment.
- Ability to develop and maintain tests for satellite systems using Python or Shell to automate routine tasks.
- Skills in electronics and embedded systems.
- Proficient in English, both written and spoken, to ensure clear communication in a cross-functional environment.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and work from drawings, controlled documentation and processes such as: mechanical drawings, assembly procedures/work instructions; schematics, engineering drawings, and parts list.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Additionally, it would be beneficial if you had these attributes and skills:
- Experience using Atlassian Cloud (Jira, Confluence).
- Background in NewSpace, satellite production, or high-volume aerospace integration.
- Experience in writing and optimizing assembly and test procedures.
- Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies for improving production efficiency and reducing waste.
- Proficient in identifying system improvement opportunities and translating end-user requirements into technical design specifications.
- Experience working with cleanroom procedures and satellite integration flows.
