About Us:
GT Biosciences is a seed-stage techbio startup building Deliveromics, the first AI-powered, high-throughput, multiplexed in vivo data engine for cracking the design rules of drug delivery. Founded by MIT PhDs and an MIT professor, backed by top-tier investors, we’re creating next-generation, non-viral, cell-type-specific delivery vehicles. We’re a small, fast-moving, science-obsessed team on a mission to make routine in vivo cell reprogramming possible.
We’re a small, fast-moving, science-obsessed team on a mission to make routine in vivo cell reprogramming possible. We value transparency and collaboration, and seek teammates who thrive in an open, cooperative environment and want to grow together with the team and the company.
Job Description:
GT Biosciences is seeking a mission-driven, multidisciplinary LNP Scientist to join our Deliveromics Platform Development team to advance the next generation of non-viral delivery technologies. In this role, you will design and develop novel ionizable lipids, engineer ligand-conjugated lipid nanoparticle formulations, support Deliveromics in vivo screening, and evaluate performance using both in vitro assays and in vivo animal models. You will be responsible for experimental planning and execution, data analysis and interpretation, and the clear communication of results. As one of the earliest scientific hires at an emerging techbio company, you will have the opportunity to shape platform development, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute directly to transformative delivery solutions for genetic medicines. This is a full-time, in-person position based in Cambridge, MA.
Responsibilities:
Lead the discovery and development of innovative ligand-LNP delivery technologies, with a focus on improving biological performance, biophysical properties, and in vivo targeting.
Design and develop novel ionizable lipids, ligand-conjugated LNP formulations, and related chemistries for targeted delivery applications.
Develop, optimize, and implement high-throughput assays to evaluate LNP systems, including stability, delivery efficiency, and critical quality attributes, in both in vitro and in vivo models.
Design and execute experiments at the intersection of chemistry, molecular biology, and formulation science, including spatial or sequencing-based readouts when appropriate.
Independently plan, execute, and analyze experiments while also overseeing work performed by supporting scientists.
Stay current with emerging research, technologies, and competitive landscapes across lipid nanoparticles, nucleic acid delivery, targeted therapeutics, automation, and gene editing modalities.
Collaborate closely across chemistry, biology, and automation scientists within the Deliveromics Platform group to troubleshoot challenges and integrate new methods into the screening and development pipeline.
Analyze and interpret experimental data using rigorous quantitative and statistical frameworks; generate high-quality reports and provide actionable insights that inform design decisions and platform direction.
Establish and maintain complete, well-organized documentation, including protocols, SOPs, experimental records, and data summaries to ensure reproducibility and compliance.
Drive process and platform innovation, contributing to technology transfer efforts as workflows mature toward automation, scale, and production readiness.
Qualifications:
Required:
PhD in Chemistry, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field. Exceptional candidates with substantial relevant experience will also be considered, regardless of degree.
Hands-on experience with ionizable lipids, LNP formulation, RNA/LNP nanoparticle preparation, targeted delivery systems, or related technologies, with a strong track record in industry or academia.
Deep expertise in the design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel ionizable lipids, lipid conjugates, lipid-like compounds, or related molecular platforms.
Practical experience with lipid biology, LNP formulation development and optimization, and in vitro and/or in vivo assays assessing delivery performance.
Strong problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a high level of experimental rigor.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse scientific and technical teams.
A resourceful, adaptable, and emotionally intelligent team member who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Ability to work onsite five days per week at our Cambridge, MA location.
Nice to have:
Prior experience working with non-human primate models will be a strong plus.
Experiences with nucleic acid chemistry (mRNA, ASO, and siRNA, etc.).
Basic coding skills (e.g., Python, R, or MATLAB).
-
Hands-on experience troubleshooting liquid-handling platforms or automated lab systems.
What we offer
Competitive salary and equity.
Flexible, generous health benefits.
Work with a small, world-class team that values rigorous science and candid collaboration.
-
Opportunity to work with experts from diverse scientific backgrounds.
