About Gridware
Gridware is a San Francisco-based technology company dedicated to protecting and enhancing the electrical grid. We pioneered a groundbreaking new class of grid management called active grid response (AGR), focused on monitoring the electrical, physical, and environmental aspects of the grid that affect reliability and safety. Gridware’s advanced Active Grid Response platform uses high-precision sensors to detect potential issues early, enabling proactive maintenance and fault mitigation. This comprehensive approach helps improve safety, reduce outages, and ensure the grid operates efficiently. The company is backed by climate-tech and Silicon Valley investors. Role Description
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to lead the development of systems that detect and report faults on the power grid in real time. You’ll be building the connective tissue between our machine learning models, sensor network, and human analysts, ensuring every event on the grid is detected, validated, and acted upon as quickly as possible.
This is a high-impact, high-ownership role at the heart of Gridware’s mission. The systems you design will directly influence how our fault detection platform scales - enabling faster, more reliable insights and reducing risk across thousands of miles of electrical infrastructure.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and build real-time, event-driven systems that power our grid fault detection platform.
- Integrate machine learning pipelines with human-in-the-loop workflows for efficient fault classification and escalation.
- Develop scalable backend services to manage data ingestion, processing, and reporting across a growing device fleet.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with data science, firmware, and operations teams to ensure high signal accuracy and uptime.
- Implement observability and monitoring tools to ensure system performance, reliability, and transparency at scale.
Your background might look something like:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience at product-driven companies.
- Experience designing or maintaining distributed or real-time systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python, React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL.
- Ability to thrive in a low-structure, high-autonomy environment with competing priorities.
- Proven experience building from the ground up with broad ownership.
Bonus Points:
- Experience developing real-time, event-driven, or human-in-the-loop platforms.
- Familiarity with observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Mimir, etc.).
- Experience working in hardware–software integrated systems where uptime and reliability are critical.
This describes the ideal candidate; many of us have picked up this expertise along the way. Even if you meet only part of this list, we encourage you to apply!
