The Design Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the mechanical, plumbing, and sanitary systems are designed efficiently, compliant with standards, and coordinated across multiple disciplines in mission-critical / large MEP projects. The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically strong, and collaborative, with experience in data centre or high-availability projects, capable of supporting both design and operational readiness for projects in the APAC region.

  1. Job Purpose

The Mechanical Design Engineer, APAC will be responsible for the design, review, and coordination of mechanical, plumbing, and sanitary systems for data centres. The role ensures that all designs meet engineering standards, client requirements, regulatory codes, and operational reliability.

The incumbent will work closely with project managers, operations, and construction teams to support engineering excellence, constructability, and commissioning readiness, while ensuring integration with other disciplines and critical systems.

2. Key Roles & Responsibilities

Design & Technical Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and calculations for (HVAC, chillers, CRAH/CRAC/FWU, pumps, fire protection, plumbing, sanitary).
  • Perform load calculations, ductwork/piping sizing, and system simulations for efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure design compliance with local codes international standards (Uptime Tier, TIA, NFPA, IEC etc), and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with civil and structural engineers to ensure integrated designs.
  • Support selection of mechanical equipment and system components based on design, budget, and operational requirements.

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Coordinate design efforts with project managers, contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Conduct design review meetings, page turn and resolve technical conflicts between disciplines.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support cross-disciplinary integration.

Quality, Compliance & Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including design reports, design calculations, MEP schematics, and as-built drawings.
  • Conduct site work inspection on design deliverables to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Support compliance audits and design verification reviews.

Support Construction & Commissioning

  • Provide design support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Assist, support in Testing & Commissioning (T&C), including troubleshooting of MEP&S systems.
  • Ensure seamless handover of engineering documentation to operations and maintenance teams.

  1. Requirements

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Building Services Engineering.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, ATD, IPM, or other relevant MEP design certifications are advantageous.

Experience:

  • Minimum 6–10 years in MEP&S design for data centres, or high-technology projects.
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC, chillers, CRAH/CRAC/FWU, fire protection, plumbing, and sanitary systems.
  • Knowledge of Uptime Tier/TIA standards, NFPA, IEC, ANSI/TIA, ISO, and local codes.
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, and clients during design and construction.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, BIM, and other design tools.
  • Ability to conduct system load calculations, energy simulations, and performance analyses.
  • Familiarity with BMS, SCADA, and monitoring systems

Soft Skills & Leadership:

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple design tasks across projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English; Bahasa Indonesia preferred.

  1. Employment Terms
  • Work Location: Cyberjaya, West Malaysia (primary), with travel (20-40%) to vendors/factories/sites where applicable.
  • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, with site supervision & inspection, site testing and commissioning support.
