About Us
Deep Genomics is at the forefront of integrating artificial intelligence and complex biology to transform drug discovery. Our proprietary machine learning platform decodes the complexity of RNA biology to identify novel drug targets, mechanisms and therapeutics inaccessible through traditional methods. With expertise spanning machine learning, bioinformatics, data science, genetics, chemistry and drug development, our multidisciplinary team in Toronto and Cambridge, MA is revolutionizing how medicines are created.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate to join our Platform Technology team and play a critical role in advancing our AI-enabled RNA therapeutics discovery platform. In this position, you will design, implement, and optimize genomics-based assays that power therapeutic discovery, screening, and validation across a wide range of cellular systems. You will support high-throughput evaluation of novel RNA therapeutics—including modalities such as ADAR editing, ASOs, siRNAs, and mRNAs—and generate high-quality molecular data that directly feeds into computational models and therapeutic decision-making.
As a key contributor within a dynamic research environment, you will collaborate closely with computational scientists, platform biologists, and therapeutic program teams. You will develop and execute next-generation sequencing assays, functional genomics readouts, and high-throughput molecular screens that drive target validation, lead optimization, and drug profiling.
This role is ideal for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional setting and enjoy building and scaling cutting-edge experimental technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and optimize high-throughput genomics assays, including NGS workflows, targeted sequencing, RNA-seq, and high-content gene expression readouts, to evaluate RNA therapeutic candidates.
- Sequence prepared libraries independently using instruments such as the Illumina NextSeq, including run setup, instrument operation, and routine troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot library prep, QC metrics, and workflow bottlenecks to ensure consistently high-quality datasets for computational analysis.
- Implement automated workflows using liquid handlers (e.g., Hamilton STAR, Agilent Bravo, Beckman Echo) to scale discovery and screening activities.
- Perform a broad range of molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR/ddPCR, and nucleic acid extractions on a variety of cell types and tissues.
- Clearly document experimental plans, results, SOPs, troubleshooting steps, and data within an electronic lab notebook (ELN).
- Present experimental findings and assay performance updates to project teams and collaborators.
Basic Qualifications
- BS or MS in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related discipline with 3–6 years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong understanding of molecular and cell biology principles.
- Experience with NGS library preparation, including amplicon-seq, bulk RNA-seq, targeted panels, or single-cell sequencing.
- Experience extracting RNA/DNA from cells and animal tissues.
- Demonstrated proficiency in designing and executing genomics-based or molecular assays.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to prioritize and drive work independently in a fast-paced research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with specific liquid handling platforms such as Hamilton STAR, Agilent Bravo, or Beckman Echo.
- Familiarity with RNA therapeutic modalities (ADAR editing, ASOs, siRNAs, mRNA).
- Hands-on experience growing, maintaining, and transfecting mammalian cells.
- Prior experience in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or platform-driven discovery environment and demonstrated ability to collaborate within a highly cross-functional and multidisciplinary team.
What we offer
- A collaborative and innovative environment at the frontier of computational biology, machine learning, and drug discovery.
- Highly competitive compensation, including meaningful stock ownership.
- Comprehensive benefits - including health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and families, employee and family assistance program.
- Flexible work environment - including flexible hours, extended long weekends, holiday shutdown, unlimited personal days.
- Maternity and parental leave top-up coverage, as well as new parent paid time off.
- Focus on learning and growth for all employees - learning and development budget & lunch and learns.
- Facilities located in the heart of Toronto - the epicenter of machine learning and AI research and development, and in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Mass. - a global center of biotechnology and life sciences.
