About the role
As a Staff Platform Engineer at Daydream, you will help transform shopping online with excellence in AI-powered engineering, systems, and products. This role requires a unique blend of strong software engineering skills, enablement through visionary platform choices, innovative problem solving, and an intense focus on delivering a great experience for the user. You’ll drive systems reliability, implementation of robust CI/CD solutions, optimize cloud deployment strategies, and lead the development of our platform engineering practice. In addition, you’ll partner with product and other engineering teams to bring cutting-edge AI solutions to life.
What you’ll do:

Platform
Shape and implement platform strategy, observability, and accelerate engineering practice
Develop a comprehensive vision and roadmap for the platform that Daydream uses to develop AI-powered products and services
Empower engineers with self-service infrastructure tools and processes
Mentor and build the platform engineering team as we scale

Monitor
Build continuous monitoring of system and product performance
Develop automated pipelines to keep products up to date
Troubleshoot and debug issues in production systems
Build company skill in incident management

Production
Automate repetitive work, and enable rapid experimentation
Design, develop, and manage CI/CD processes on GitHub and ArgoCD.
Build, deploy, and optimize production-ready, scalable backend, data, and ML services to Google Kubernetes Engine and manage infrastructure on Google Cloud and other third party services
Utilize Terraform for reliable resource configuration and procurement

Collaborate
Work closely with the team to deliver innovative AI/ML product experiences
Partner with product managers to translate business requirements and user journeys into technical solutions
Who you are
7+ years of overall software engineering experience, with 4+ years of experience in platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure
2+ years of experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring other engineers
Proven experience designing and implementing production-grade Kubernetes solutions
Strong background in cloud infrastructure, particularly with Google Cloud Platform
Experience with incident management and driving effective oncall training and practices
Experience implementing GitOps workflows and infrastructure-as-code practices
Passionate about improving developer experience, automation, and operational efficiency
A systems thinker who can balance immediate needs with long-term architectural goals
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making technical decisions with limited guidance
An effective communicator who can translate complex technical concepts across teams and functions
Experience driving adoption of platform solutions through documentation, training, and advocacy
Demonstrated ability to identify organizational pain points and implement effective solutions
Additional Valuable Experience
Experience in AI or data-driven startups
Familiarity with additional cloud providers
Contributions to open source projects in the platform engineering space
Data privacy and ethical AI practices
