Responsibilities

• Design, architect, implement and test motor core control algorithms to achieve maximum output power and optimal efficiency over full operating range of the drive system
• Develop the overall control functionality for the motor controller
• Guide firmware team in selection of microcontroller
• Push the limits on overall processor load and invent and develop smart features for motor characterization and auto-tuning
• Test and verify control schemes over full range of speed, torque, voltage and temperature
• Develop advanced software features that enable unique and new functionality in motor controller
• Review and contribute to software safety strategy
• Utilize experience in design to take high level, complex design challenges and break down into individual building blocks.

Qualifications

Education: MS/PhD in EE with a focus on motor controls

• Strong first principles understanding of inverter modulation techniques, vector control of electric machines
• Strong fundamentals of linear control theory
• Ability to write bare metal code in C as well as understanding of Matlab codegen toolkit
• Experience with testing inverter controlled motors on a dynamometer test rig
• Familiarity with CAN protocol is a plus
• Familiarity with ISO-26262 is a plus
• Bonus: previous experience with motor electromagnetic design + build
• First principles engineering mindset
