Job Description

As a member of the User Experience Design team at PayPal, you will create meaningful and cohesive end-to-end experiences through a deep understanding of our customers and exceptional design execution. You will collaborate with product and technology teams to build the next generation of financial service products by bringing the customer to the forefront in everything we do. The ideal candidate is an all-around designer with both interaction and visual design skills, and exceptional production/delivery skills. This individual should have a passion for empathizing with the needs and behaviors of our customers and our business and how to solve for them through design.

This role is on the Unified Payment Requests (UPR) Team that helps Paypal merchants request payments in app and inks to tap to pay (zettle)

This role calls for a Designer with an unwavering commitment to user-centered design. This passion translates into flawless execution, leveraging a deep understanding of design patterns to build trust and security within our financial products. They will cultivate a visually sophisticated brand experience that resonates with our target audience, all while influencing stakeholders to champion their design vision.

Responsibilities:

  • Partners with design, engineering, design systems and product management team members in the execution and delivery of PayPal’s products and services, using a customer-focused, iterative design process, including standups, planning, refinement, and demos.
  • Heavy delivery side focus in support of rolling out tap to pay globally, working closely with developers
  • Primary relationship will be with Production Manager; Work within JIRA, actioning tickets with the assistance of the Project Manager (PM).
  • Attend meetings and collaborate closely with PMs to review product strategy, ensuring it aligns with user needs and prioritizing tasks accordingly.
  • Collaborate closely with developers to understand and navigate technical limitations.
  • Utilize and interface with design systems, including weekly critique sessions, presenting to management, and assisting PMs.
  • Collaborate with UX research and content design teams.
  • Present designs to team members, requiring strong speaking and exceptional communication skills.
  • Use and prototype in Figma.
  • Adapt to being the sole designer on the team, which may require adjustment for candidates accustomed to working with multiple designers.
  • Creates high-quality deliverables and executes based on product design goals and priorities without prescriptive guidance or direction, managing their work to a more extensive schedule.
  • Leverages and extends the use of established product design techniques, templates, presentations and assets in the creation of product design analysis, solutions and materials.
  • Contributes to the adaptation of PayPal product design tools, methodology and software, and proposes new solutions or optimizes existing ones.
  • Creates opportunities to foster collaborative cross-discipline dynamics. Drives product design team delivery excellence, furthering influence to achieve product design goals.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of relevant design experience, as demonstrated by full featured portfolio
  • Fintech/financial services experience required; Tap-to-pay experience a big plus
  • Native iOS Mobile Design experience required
  • Thorough understanding of product design methodology and lifecycle across significant channels and platforms.
  • Customer-focused, with experience using design research methods to uncover customer insights.
  • Effectively operates within an iterative design team, managing product design responsibilities against defined milestones and plan with little day-to-day oversight.
  • Thorough knowledge of essential channels and platforms, with experience in mobile, dedicated, web and native solution design.
  • Experience with resources such as design system, pattern library, repositories, and internal communication tools.
  • General awareness of technology mediums (i.e., JavaScript, HTML/CSS) including differences between them.
