The Role
The Operational Controls Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing organisational controls to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of business teams. This role will ensure that all processes are documented, review the processes to identify the necessary controls, implement and continually monitor and report.
You will work closely with key stakeholders across various departments to identify process risks, establish control measures, and continuously monitor operational activities to mitigate potential issues. This role is critical to our scaling business and you will be a key support to different function in process and operational control excellence.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- 1st Line risk management including identifying, assessing and priorities operational controls across all functions and working closely with our GRCS team to design and implement mitigation strategies to minimise business risk ensuring these are thoroughly embedded into day to day operations.
- You will develop, maintain and continually improve an effective control framework to monitor and improve our operational processes.
- You will conduct ongoing monitoring of processes to ensure adherence to controls reporting regularly on this to senior management. You will develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the effectiveness of operational controls.
- You will build a culture in the business around operational excellence promoting awareness and accountability around business controls.
- You will work with different functions around the business to enhance processes helping people to identify inefficiencies, gaps, or opportunities for process improvements.
- You will collaborate closely with GRCS to investigate any operational incidents of breaches of controls and recommend correct actions, working with relevant departments to support implementation of these.
Key Skills, competencies and experience
- You will have a strong understanding of operational risk frameworks and risk assessment techniques.
- Ability to analyse complex data and identify trends or areas of improvement.
- You will have meticulous attention to detail in monitoring processes, identifying risks, and implementing corrective actions.
- Building credibility will be essential in this role therefore strong relationship skills across multiple stakeholders is essential including senior leadership, operational teams and external auditors.
- You will be an adept problem solver capable of addressing operational challenges with practical, pragmatic and effective solutions. You will be a champion for problem solving across the business.
- You will excel in working collaboratively on a cross functional basis.
Your background
- You will have held a similar role in operational controls or risk management.
- Ideally a degree in business administration, Operations Management, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Relevant professional qualifications (i.e. Certified Risk Management Professional, Six Sigma, or equivalent) are desirable.
- Proven experience in designing and managing operational control frameworks.
- Experience of a SAAS or payments business would be beneficial although not necessary.
- Familiarity with operational risk management software and tools.
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools is an advantage.
